Peter Hansford, the Government’s Chief Construction Adviser, will give the JCT Povey Lecture on Thursday 14 November 2013.
Peter’s lecture, entitled ‘A Time for Partnership’, will address the need for greater collaboration between government and the industry, showing how initiatives to develop effective collaboration can ensure that the UK continues to provide a world-class construction industry, contributes further to economic growth, and enables improvements in transport, infrastructure and social change.
Peter will describe his role in relation to enabling greater partnership between government and the industry, highlighting in particular the launch of the Government’s Industrial Strategy for Construction – ‘Construction 2025’.
Construction 2025 sets out the UK’s strategic vision for the industry by 2025, by focusing on key areas, such as people and skills, technology, sustainability, growth, and leadership.
In addition, Peter will discuss how effective partnership between government and the industry is the key driver to delivering this strategy. Bringing the industry and government together through groups such as the Construction Industry Strategy Advisory Council (CISAC) and the Construction Leadership Council has been central to both shaping the strategy and taking it forward.
JCT Chief Executive, Neil Gower, said:
“We are delighted that Peter Hansford has agreed to give the JCT Povey Lecture this year. JCT contracts are created on the foundation of bringing the industry together and collaborating. The development of our forms relies upon the expertise of consultants, clients, contractors, specialists, and sub-contractors to provide comprehensive and balanced contractual provisions.
“We are looking forward to hearing about the work Peter is doing to enable better collaboration between government and the industry and the role that JCT can play in helping to implement the government’s strategy.”
Peter Hansford became the Government’s Chief Construction Adviser in December 2012, replacing Paul Morrell. Previously he has held positions as President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and Executive Director of the Strategic Rail Authority.
The JCT Povey Lecture is an annual event at which an eminent person is invited to give their thoughts on significant matters that are relevant to the construction and property industry. The purpose of the lecture is to stimulate thought and encourage ways of continuing to improve the quality and value of construction output.
The event was inaugurated in 2003 to acknowledge and pay tribute to Philip Povey, who served JCT for fifty years. Further information can be found by visiting the Povey Lecture page.
