Since the launch of the JCT 2024 Edition back in April, members have been involved in various online and in-person events to provide an update on the main themes and changes within the edition to the industry.
JCT 2024 Online Launch Event
The official launch event took place on 1st May, broadcast online in partnership with Building Magazine. Contributing speakers and their topics included Victoria Peckett (chair of JCT Drafting Sub-Committee (DSC) and partner at Clyde & Co LLP) – ‘Modernising and Streamlining’, John Riches (vice-chair of JCT DSC and QS, adjudicator, and arbitrator at Henry Cooper Consulting Limited) – ‘New for JCT 2024 – Target Cost Contract’, Sarah Elliot (member of JCT DSC and partner at Wedlake Bell LLP) – ‘Future Proofing’, and Ben Patton (member of JCT DSC and partner at Ashurst LLP) – ‘Legislative Changes’.
With over 4500 registrations, and over 3000 attendees tuning in to watch live, the JCT 2024 Online Launch Event achieved a record for both a JCT event and for any webinar broadcast by Building.
The full presentation is available to view on demand on the JCT corporate website at https://corporate.jctltd.co.uk/jct-2024-edition/. The JCT 2024 hub also provides a range of information about the new edition, including video trailer, infographic summary, booklet, and an update on current JCT 2024 products that are available.
NACF/LGA Conference
Following the Online Launch, JCT had the opportunity to update the public sector, when it was invited to send a delegate to present at the National Association of Construction Frameworks (NAFC) and Local Government Authority (LGA) Annual Conference, held in Leeds on 8 May.
DSC vice-chair, John Riches, presented an overview of the changes in JCT 2024. The event was an important first occasion to update clients in the public sector on the JCT 2024 Edition.
Clyde & Co Events
Led by DSC chair, Victoria Peckett, JCT has partnered with Clyde and Co LLP to deliver three in-person events in London, Manchester and Bristol, respectively.
The London event took place at Clyde & Co’s headquarters at the St Botolph Building on 29 May. The Manchester event took place on 4th June, and Bristol on 19th June.
Guests had a valuable opportunity to hear from the chair of JCT’s DSC, gaining an insight into the main changes in JCT 2024, the background to the edition, and some of the important areas of legislative change to consider.
Shoosmiths Event
Featuring JCT chair, Karen Kirkham, and vice chair, Sean Smylie, a JCT 2024 event in partnership with Shoosmiths LLP took place at their Birmingham offices on 6 June. This unique event was an opportunity for guests to hear from both JCT chair and vice chair for an overview of the changes within the JCT 2024 Edition.
The response in the event Q&A was indicative of the positive way in which the industry has received the latest edition of JCT contracts.
