Terms and conditions

  1. The competition is open to any student registered with a UK educational or professional institution who is studying a degree (undergraduate or postgraduate), professional qualification, vocational course (e.g. NVQ), trade apprenticeship, or any other construction-related programme. The competition is also open to UK educational institutions which submit their students’ essays on their behalf.
  2. Students enter the competition by completing the registration form at www.jctltd.co.uk/student-entry.aspx

  4. When complete, entries must be submitted by email to competitions@jctltd.co.uk. The email must include the candidate’s name, together with a contact address, telephone number and the name of the university/college/organisation and the course being studied. The email should contain a statement that the piece is solely the student’s own work.
  5. Paper entries, i.e. essays, papers, articles, photographic essays, should be attached as a word document to the submission email.
  6. Designs or drawings can be attached as documents in any format that does not require specialist software to download or access (e.g. word, PDF), or as a link to a webpage if the design is hosted online.
  7. Videos entries should be uploaded to YouTube, with a link to the video in the submission email.
  8. Entries must be in English (UK) and must be received by 12 noon on Wednesday 15th March 2017, the closing date of the competition. Late entries will not be accepted.
  9. Entrants are encouraged to read the ‘Helpful hints’ section before working on their entry.
  10. Judging will take place following the close of the competition and will be completed during May 2017. Details of the judges will be announced in advance.
  11. Winners will be advised individually by email. Arrangements for the presentation of the prize will be notified soon after.
  12. The decisions of JCT and the judging panel are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  13. A prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the competition winner, with prizes of £250 awarded to runners-up. The prize funds will be transferred electronically and arrangements will be made between JCT and the individual winners.
  14. All entrants agree to participate in competition promotion and public relations activities. Winners agree to allow photography of them receiving their prize and for those images to be used as JCT wishes, and to be the subject of a news release announcing prize winners. JCT will publish the names of winners, and their college/university or organisation. No other personal details will be released.
  15. Entrants whose submissions are found to contain plagiarised work will be disqualified.
  16. Upon entering the competition, entrants agree to allow JCT to publish their entry as it wishes, including supplying the content for publication in the media, uploading on the internet, and use through other channels. This includes the entire entry or excerpts from it. Any such use will be suitably notated and acknowledged.
  17. This competition is being promoted by the Joint Contracts Tribunal Limited, 28 Ely Place, London EC1N 6TD. JCT will for its part make every endeavour to carry out the competition in accordance with the rules but shall have no liability to the entrants should it fail to do so.
